“Marne of Preservation” is a lyrical comedy (a typical genre for classical ballet), miraculously survived all the reforms and shocks of the 19th and 20th centuries, is respected by the oldest ballet, which has shattered our days. True, there is less to say about the libreto of Jean Dauberval: the choreography and the choice of music premiered in 1789 were not spared by fate. Pastorals with unprepossessing intrigue, where you can set them up to amaze the dead, they were traditional for a ballet scene. All the same, the ballet was taken by the co-workers like an innovative one. Dauberval made the plot and characters more realistic (don't go and naivno): the bucolly seams of the wines were replaced by a prose chintz in a direct and figurative sense. The vitality of the choreography has also become an important factor. Following the teacher Jean Nover, Dauberval created a ballet, de diya developed through choreography, and not just a pantomime, as critics have pointed out more than once. Ashton's "Marne of Preservation" harmoniously blended into the atmosphere of bourgeois respectability, which brought it to the Mikhailovsky Theatre, favorably shaped by the growing ornament of the duat's opuses and gracefully adorned with extraordinary doses of extraordinary director's interpretations. Today, Ashton's ballet is a classic, but not yet archaic - it looks like a comical pastoral of the 20th century.
